•  Country Summary
  • The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod began work in Poland in 1943 and resumed work in 1993. In 2001, a mission and education center in Dziegielow opened to train pastors and laypeople. It holds annual youth gatherings each summer in Dziegielow, attracting more than 3,000 participants. Additionally, a new conference center with guestrooms was completed in Warsaw. The church continues to focus on hospice assistance, help for single-parent families, deaconess work, and leadership training for pastors and laypeople.

The LCMS first supported mercy work in Poland in 1988 with a grant for medical supplies, food and clothing for the destitute.

The LCMS has helped equip Polish leaders and laity for proclamation of the Gospel. Currently, LCMS GEO (long-term) missionaries assist the Polish church in youth outreach and education by teaching the Christian faith and English in church-related junior and senior high schools, and they lead youth events and Bible studies. LCMS missionaries have also partnered with the church to reach out across the border in the Czech Republic and Slovakia through English-as-a-Second-Language classes. Most recently, career and GEO missionaries have coordinated with the Lutheran congregations in Poland to host short-term teams at numerous sites throughout Poland during the summer. These teams have conducted successful children's English Bible camps, which attract many families that are not currently connected with a church.

The Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland reports a baptized membership of more than 80,000 in 300 congregations and preaching stations. It has a national staff of 160 pastors, 20 teachers and 36 additional staff members. The church operates the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw with an enrollment of 90 students.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Inc., including Mission Central (in Mapleton, Iowa), is an IRS registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.

A contribution designated (restricted) for a specific purpose when accepted, will be used only to fund expenses related to that purpose. Occasionally, we may receive more in contributions for a particular purpose than can be wisely applied to it in the foreseeable future or the purpose may cease to be feasible. In these situations, the LCMS will make reasonable attempts to contact contributors to apply their contribution differently. If a contributor cannot be contacted, the LCMS will use the gift to meet a similar pressing need that most closely matches the contributor's original intent. Contributions received and accepted by the LCMS are deemed to be in agreement with this statement.
