The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod began work in Uruguay in 1960.
In 1993, the LCMS began mercy work support in Uruguay with a grant to upgrade the sanitation system in a church and school.
The LCMS periodically supports various projects in support of the national Lutheran church in Uruguay. The LCMS partners with a Lutheran congregation in Montevideo, Uruguay, to increase Lutheran outreach and mission.
The LCMS' Recognized Service Organization, Children’s Christian Concern Society, also provides educational scholarships for students and teacher salaries at Lutheran schools in Uruguay.
